Slow Team – ‘Snake Melons’ / New Single

Slow Team are back with their new single ‘Snake Melons’. The third single from the Leeds-based band offers an insight into their newer, groove-directed direction. Taking inspiration from the likes of Massive Attack, Deftones and James Blake, this new single is a cinematic reminder to not sweat the small stuff.

With a bass synthesiser and electronic drums involved, ‘Snake Melons’ sees a return of the trio’s darker, grungier roots. Sounding mysterious as darkness bleeds out of the speakers. Its ominous atmosphere is quick to wrap you up in it, but there’s a swing to the rhythm section that brings a serious groove to the ears. The way the boom of the bass collides with the snap of the drums is honestly pretty satisfying to hear.

But for all the groove, the song does a great job ramping up the tension too. The dual vocals sound steely and determined. Leading the way for the instrumental to steadily creep up the volume, culminating in a ferocious close that sees guitars and vocals scream out from the mix – as if unloading all of the pent-up frustration that comes with dealing with a shitty situation.

‘Snake Melons’ is an explosive, erratic tune that blends together all sorts of instruments and styles and throws it right at your face. It is a thrilling listen and offers a sound I look forward to hearing Slow Team explore some more.
