Still Blue – ‘Lace’ / new single

After their release earlier in the year, Still Blue are back with their brand new track ‘Lace’. Their previous release ‘Honeysuckle Daydream’ was unleashed back in March and has done quite well, amassing over 30,000 listens. So it’s great to see the Dublin trio returning to continue their momentum. This is all building up to their debut EP release All Over the Chip Shop which is released on June 16th, later this year.

The track has been dubbed by the band “a sad song about sex”, as it tells the complicated and confusing experience of trying to feel comfortable in one’s sexuality while being viewed solely as a body. But after listening it’s much more than that, as it goes into the depths people will go to feel loved, and how that can affect their self-esteem.

Lead vocalist Nicole Lyons owns this very unique voice, which is the first element which stood out to me after the first listen, so delicate and angelic offering an excellent contrast to the instrumentals. The band do a really good job in the breakdown and the buildup back into the final swing of the track, it sounds massive, and I only can imagine that it sounds even more dramatic when it’s played live. The overall way has pop sensibilities but is still very much rooted in that classic indie guitar sound. This works well, as this wouldn’t sound at all out of place if it was dropped in the middle of a radio 1 playlist.

Looking forward to the debut EP from the trio, they sound confident in their sound and their song subject matters, which can only mean good things. Roll on mid-June!
