The Clause – Pop Culture / EP Review

Streaming on the likes of Apple Music and Spotify is a popular and convenient way to listen to music these days, and it’s a platform that I use on a regular basis to check out the latest tunes. However, for me, nothing quite beats the physical format – especially when a beautiful piece of vinyl comes your way.

The Clause have embraced this format in the past, with the release on 7″ vinyl of the brilliant single ‘Time Of Our Lives’. Last week I was fortunate to receive the 12″ vinyl of their latest EP Pop Culture.

As well as having 5 brilliant songs, it’s a thing of beauty with it’s artwork and absolutely gorgeous marble design. In addition to being signed by the boys, it really is a beautiful piece of art.

The EP begins with the title track which addresses the desperation of wanting to be famous or impress people socially. It’s a jaunty, quirky prod at people whose ultimate desire is to be recognised.

I Don’t Care‘ and ‘Fake It‘ both have trademark distinctive guitar riffs and are both as catchy as hell. ‘Fake It’ shows the band’s ballsy side while ‘I Don’t Care’ is simply poptastic. ‘Hate The Player‘ oozes funk and shows another side to the boys’ cannon.

The EP concludes with the beautiful ‘Gabrielle’ and is a track I can see being a favourite in their live shows. It’s change of pace shows the boys’ ability to write classics.  It’s simply breathtaking and the perfect end to this five song journey.

It’s a great EP with a clever choice of tracks showing different sides to this brilliant band, made even more momentous by a gorgeous vinyl pressing.
