The Greeting Committee and Briston Maroney have joined forces on the first single from Dandelion (Deluxe), the expanded edition of The Greeting Committee’s sophomore album from 2021. The Midwest band created one of my favourite albums of last year with Dandelion and maybe one of my favourite break-up albums ever. Both those themes are continued in ‘Sort Of Stranger’.
The track is an evocative continuation of the sadness and longing that were explored in Dandelion. Lead singer Addie Sartino’s tender vocals pair perfectly with the smooth-as- honey drawl of singer-songwriter Briston Maroney. Accompanying the emotional vocals is a continuous acoustic guitar – think heartbroken campfire ode.
“If you’re gone / How do I go on?”, Sartino yearns in the chorus. The song fits perfectly in Dandelion, mirroring the despair of opening track ‘Can I Leave Me Too?’. With no release date for Dandelion (Deluxe) yet, we can only wait for more from the band. For now though, let’s be content with ‘Sort Of Stranger’ to soundtrack any post-Valentine’s Day blues that might be sticking around.
