It’s a brand-new year and January has already brought us a whole lot of brilliant new singles. Among this week’s is The Lathum’s latest release – ‘Struggle’.
‘Struggle’ is the opening track taken from the jangly Wigan trio’s upcoming sophomore album From Nothing To A Little Bit More which is currently set for release on Friday the 3rd of March.
The song starts with a melancholic piano intro and soft vocals from Alex Moore that set the tone for the track. Acoustic guitar and a bassline kick in around 30 second mark as the vocals deliver introspective reflective lyrics, telling a story about overcoming loss as you grow older and wiser.
“I loved you, but you didn’t care” Moore sings, his soul-reaching vocals soar packed with depth and meaning as the emotion of the track stirs and swirls.
Alex Moore commented: “It’s about loss, someone who has gone from your life and has its roots in our early college days. Scott has a piano in his house and up to that point I’d never had contact with the piano, but the more we hung out, the more I played around on it. This is the song that came out of me and it’s been difficult to show people up until now. It’s so personal.”
‘Struggle’ is another excellent offering from a band with plenty of heart. The Lathums continue to grow from strength to strength with each new release as they breathe new life into the indie genre.
