The Lounge Society – ‘Blood Money’ / New Single

The Lounge Society have again affirmed their position at the cutting edge of the post punk scene.
Their new track, ‘Blood Money’ features a confident delivery of politically charged lyrics and
danceable instrumentation that showcases a band at the top of their game.

Almost exactly a year after their debut EP ensured the capturing of the music media’s attention,
‘Blood Money’ has all but cemented the group as one of the trailblazers of their genre. A new
approach to production and help from fellow musicians has resulted in the band’s best release to
date.

The tune continues the band’s development as straight talking post-punkers; lyrical themes centre around how, as a society, we all suffer from the actions of self serving elites.

Feelings of both anger and frustration are exhibited throughout the track: “Lives are lost and lost
and lost/but you’re too busy saving your pals”, throws shade at the UK’s questionable handling of
the COVID-19 pandemic. Elsewhere, the group express discontent at lies that are “drenched in
sarcasm”.

The candid nature of the lyrics are delivered frankly, which highlights the group’s ability to candidly
express the emotions they feel; something seemingly a key factor in their creative process and one that makes their lyrics all the more relatable.

Musically, the band sound as confident here as they ever have. Sharp guitars are juxtaposed with
a groovy rhythm section that creates a kind of danceable irritability, while backing vocals – provided by label mates at Speedy Wunderground – add a previously unheard softer edge to the group’s sound. The experimental instrumentation that the group are known for, complete with its wobbly and scratchy guitar lines and whaling vocal, also makes an appearance in the track’s closing sections and is as intoxicating as you’d expect.

The track also came with the announcement of the band’s debut album, which comes in August
this year and promises to deliver on the band’s hype. It’s an album that way well redefine
contemporary post punk.
