Christmas is a busy period, and sometimes during all of the hullaballoo, things get lost or go unnoticed – this was the case with The Publics and their new track ‘Young Hearts’. Over the Christmas period while everyone was rushing to finish off their Christmas shopping, frantically wrapping presents or just having pre-Christmas anxiety attacks we should have all just took a step back and listened to ‘Young Hearts’.I’m sure after a couple of listens, we would have been too pre-occupied with the slanging hook from the track to care what was going on around us.
The track followed their earlier release from 2022 ‘Marathon in Heels’ which was well received, and I’m sure this will be aswell. The track opens up with a phone ringing and the voicemail answering saying “you have one new message” before the song blurts into action. It’s a cool little creative opening. We’re then thrown into a bit of a whirlwind, and the song goes into full swing. The song is very much inspired by 00’s indie, as it’s at the very heart of the song and it’s extremely well executed with the song being so tight and darn catchy. You can easily see crowds launching the words back to the band when they play live.
A bit of trivia though, it’s obvious from the title that the song centers itself around young love, however I later learned it’s inspired by a friend of the band appearing on Channel 4’s ‘Teen First Dates’ which is a unique perspective.
So after a strong end to 2022, it will be good to see The Public capitalize on some of this momentum and push for more releases in 2023!
