The Rills – ‘Falling Apart’ / New Single

Finally, 2023 has started to kick off musically, as new tracks start trickling our way that we can start to share and obsess over. The Rills are one of the first bands we had our eyes on for a new release, and they haven’t left waiting too long as their new track ‘Falling Apart’ was released earlier in January. They had a great 2022, with the band touring a lot and releasing their debut EP Do It Differently, which was one of my highlights for EP’s in 2022.

Not wanting to rest on that momentum, they have quickly released their latest track sharpish to get 2023 off to a quick start. ‘Falling Apart’ is driven by fast-paced guitars and a hook that The Strokes would be proud of. There’s some similar stylings to Joy Division in parts with the guitar leading into the second and third verses, really volatile and in your face. The unpolished production suits the track so well, with the slight muffle on the vocals adding intimacy to it all as if lead singer Mitch Spencer is shouting down your ear.

Regardless of how upbeat it is, the band expressed that the song is about the point of no return. When your friends are being something they’re not, when you’ve lost yourself and found yourself dancing while crying to your favourite song. The lyrics convey this picture so well with the scream if “You’re falling apart” being the final battle cry.

With ‘Falling Apart’ no released we have something to keep is quiet as we wait for the second EP Aftertaste which will be released on February 24th.
