Returning with their second single of 2022, TV People’s new single, ‘Circle’, is an explorative deep
dive into the band’s atmospheric post-punk soundscape.
The song is an examination of loss and compassion – told through the perspective of the group’s
lead singer, Paul Donohoe – and succeeds in musically representing the emotions it conveys.
The tune captures its emotive subject matter in much the same way a Wolf Alice or Just Mustard
track does; an inviting and rounded vocal prevents the sharp instrumentation distracting from its
core mood, allowing the two to compliment each other in the creation of its fervour.
Its moody and introspective nature remains front and centre throughout the track’s duration,
locking you in the band’s transient yet gritty world. The track lives comfortably within the ambience
it creates, with its sludgy vocal ensuring it remains, at least for the most part, in its dark and
subdued climate.
The instrumentation, which weaves between gloomy surrealism and chaotic energy, becomes
more laced with tension as the tune progresses. Seeming like a combination of Wolf Alice and The
Murder Capital, the promised explosion eventually comes in an incendiary crescendo that sends
the track soaring into an all-conquering avalanche of sound.
Hailing from Dublin, the duo have been perfecting their gritty sound on Ireland’s gigging circuit
since 2019. In the UK, their previous releases – including last year’s debut EP – were welcomed
with acclaim from much of the country’s music press.
With more releases planned for the near future, as well as a number of UK gigs, TV People are
finding their feet in the up-and-coming music scene.
