Vacant Call – ‘Stop’ / New Single

‘Stop’ is the new single from Vacant Call, the moniker of Chicago artist Hannah Jin. There’s not much information out there so instead I’ll fill out some facts and hope for the best. Hannah probably likes Chicago-style pizza, doesn’t agree that Winter is the best season to celebrate Christmas (what) and doesn’t even place Orange in the top 5 of her list of favourite fruits. Nevermind. You can’t win them all!

Armed with vocals, guitars and keys, ‘Stop’ is an intimate track that wears its heart on its sleeve. Soft guitar chords and keys ring out beneath a thick layer of vocals to bring a downtrodden mood to the ears, setting the tone for Hannah’s vocals to deliver lyrics that are brutally honest and insightful throughout. With admissions of carrying a broken heart and wishing to “try to be better to myself”, the song feels as much for her as it does for anyone going through a tough time right now.

Its simple formula provides enough rhythm for things to sink into the mind, but it’s the lyrics that really form the connection. ‘Stop’ is a wonderful song and one that fits these chilly times well. 2022 appears to be Vacant Call’s first, so I’m looking forward to hearing how things progress into the new year.
