With the slap of a bass that reels you in within mere seconds, Vacant Weekend’s debut single, ‘All Over‘ is as sweet as the candy in your grandma’s purse and as spicy as a hot pickle from the corner store. Funk-infused “All Over” is a feel-good track with pulsing, tight drum beats that playfully interact with amusing and varied guitar riffs spread throughout. Vacant Weekend cracks the code to the coveted pop song recipe, unlocking vigorous head-nodding and semi-permanent “bass face.”
Consisting of Isaac Dobson, Connor Ryan-Williams, and Alexander Beston, the multi-instrumentalist trio, Vacant Weekend creates music “performed by losers with excellent musicianship.” Originally formed from a mutual hatred of the doldrums of traditional schooling, the band’s drummer, Isaac and frontman Alex began performing together on the streets outside of class, in the hopes of funding a trip together. The two came across the band’s guitarist, Connor, “during one of these busking sessions when he came and took the guitar Isaac was playing and proceeded to play it better than him,” the band shared.
“After this occurrence, we started bumping into each other during lunch times in the music department and during school band rehearsals,” the band continued, “it didn’t take long before we were jamming and writing songs as a trio every lunchtime, which is when the band was first born.” The finesse within the band’s first single is layered and can be peeled like an orange, revealing intricate veins interwoven throughout, all pumping together to create a joyous debut. The track is catchy, upbeat, and craftily created with a commendable guitar tone– a certified summer banger.
