Kicking off the run up to next album Let’s Talk Pt. 2, Wasuremono have released their latest track, ‘Hi!’. It is a bold and beautiful return from the Wiltshire four piece – a warm ray of sunshine that shimmers with pure joy.
Wasuremono dive straight into whimsy with the high-spirited intro centering around the melody of a wooden flute – an unlikely instrument in modern indie pop but well received nonetheless. With a feel of those last few summer days, grasping for fun in every moment, ‘Hi!’ does a wonderful job of capturing the band’s joy of music making and dreamlike creativity.
Beyond the surface level of this jovial tone, there is a deeper sense of optimism in times of need. It is a sweet reminder to not get lost in distant memories, but savour a little of that childhood innocence in pursuing one’s dreams, even when the future holds such uncertainty. With the first verse going from “Are you going to waste your Sunday nights / stuck in 1999” to “Oh won’t you open up your arms tonight”, ‘Hi!’ picks you up out of your seat and pulls you on to the dancefloor that is life, relinquishing any fear of what could go wrong. The track continues to hold its hand out to the listener; “Even when you’re lost we’ll get lost together” offering reassurance, comfort and straight up good vibes.
A catchy and lightly therapeutic indie anthem, ‘Hi!’ is a great way to open the Let’s Talk Pt.2, which will be released early next year. In the meantime Wasuremono will be on tour, so if you can’t wait until then, make sure to catch them at one of these shows:
