Norwegian alt-pop artist Yndling is known for tackling themes that are sometimes a little too close for comfort in her songwriting and the same can be said for the introspective and darkly emotive new release ‘Out of My Way’. Confronting the harsh reality of a relationship going sour, Yndling perfectly captures the wistful mood of the track with airy vocals that float above a glimmering soundscape of polished instrumentation.
Yndling talks us through the meaning behind the track: “It’s about that stage in a relationship where you are half in, half out, and can’t really find a way to make things work or to let go properly. In a situation like that, it’s my experience that one part will get over things first, and kind of leave the other part behind. Meeting up again, and realising that the other person has a totally different view of the situation and is totally over it, is super hard.“
Yndling follows in the footsteps of artists such as Mazzy Star and Beach House, she is inspired by their layering of sounds and harmonies and open and honest lyricism.
Yndling made an explosive debut on the music scene in 2021, with the release of her singles ‘Childish Fear’ in February and ‘Cotton Candy Skies’ in May. ‘Out of My Way’ is out now via Kerry on the Cake’ with a brand new music video also on the horizon.
