YUKE – No Sleep In Heaven / New Single

Hackney five-piece Yuke bring us their new Indie banger No Sleep in Heaven this week alongside their self-professed ‘slightly unhinged’ music video.

The East London friends released their first single Stranger Still in 2021, and the follow-up has not disappointed.

You can hear their influences range from jazz to disco, funk and soul. There’s a slightly 80’s flair to them, with some subtle synth sounds and strong melodic vocals. Alongside their first single, their Spotify features a playlist of artists they say built them ‘brick-by-brick’ which includes the likes of ABBA, INXS, Fleetwood Mac and even Frankie Valli. Their widespread musical influence can be heard throughout their first two singles and has culminated in a bright and joyous sound.

No Sleep in Heaven is fun to listen to and even more fun to watch. The group offer us a tongue-in-cheek video with excellent sunglasses, stellar lip-sync performances, questionable dance moves, and even a minor mosh pit. All set against a background of what appears to be old wildlife videos — I told you they called it ‘unhinged’.

By the end of the video, you want to be bouncing along with them, screaming the lyrics back. If that isn’t the sign of an Indie Summer hit, I don’t know what is.

Yuke have a lively, tight sound with bags of personality.

No Sleep in Heaven can be found on all streaming platforms from 15th July.
