Kick-starting 2024 with a self-empowering bang, funk mistress Alice Offley released her latest track “Do It My Way” on Friday 12th.
Her output in 2023 mainly consisted of sassy, funk laden songs that professed a fun-filled and carefree life centred on the dancefloor. For her latest release the singer has taken inspiration from Dale Crites a trans-act in the US who discovered the artist when she released her previous single “What Would Madonna Do”, which in turn was inspired by Offley’s love of Madonna and released to coincide with the pop legend’s Celebration Tour when she hit London’s O2 back in December. Crites, a radio and tv personality goes by the professional name of Madonna Girl Dale, recreating Madonna hits in weird and wonderful locations. Since Offley’s previous release, Madonna Girl Dale has been re-creating Offley’s song in various locations across his home of North Carolina, encouraging people to join in and spread the gospel of love.
Channelling her inner Alison Goldfrapp, Offley has eschewed her usual slinky guitar lines and purring élan for a full on synth pop banger with teeth that certainly gets her message across: “All the world is a stage, Curtain up Time to slay Every dog has their day Let me do it my way”.
To accompany the track there is a video that Offley filmed in a cold December around the graffitied streets of her home town of Swindon.
Hopefully this won’t be just a one off and the artist will consider releasing more electronic tracks in the future as she certainly has the chops for it. Whether strutting her funky stuff on the dancefloor or shaking her thang on the mean streets of Swindon, in this paean to fandom Alice Offley is an artist that can get her message across and people are listening.
