Fast-rising, London-based duo Arliston have returned with their brilliant new project, Even In The Shade. The duo, made up of Jack Ratcliffe (vocals/guitar/keyboards) and George Hasbury (guitar/keyboards) have had a busy 2022 already, with the release of an EP, ‘The Ground Might Disappear’, in January and also several singles in the lead-up to this new project. But they are most certainly ending the year on a high, as Even In The Shade is possibly their strongest offering to date.
The project features the critically acclaimed previous singles ‘Mothering’ and ‘Hold My Wine’ alongside three brand-new tracks. ‘Sydenham Place’ is simply stunning and could be perfect for festival sets with its catchy sing-along melodies. ‘TV Dinner’ stands out with its captivating production, and ‘Tombstone Teeth’ is a subtle but truly gorgeous ballad. All the tracks are tied together by the duo’s notable songwriting and Jack’s phenomenal vocals.
Formerly a trio, this is Arliston’s first music as a duo after the departure of their drummer. Elaborating further, George says: “We had just lost our drummer, amicably, so we were a little adrift as we started making this EP. The first song we wrote was ‘Mothering’, which was sort of inherently smaller without a drummer’s presence. But it still felt good and like Arliston, and after that the rest of the songs quickly emerged.”
Jack adds: “I think we feel like we’re only just finding our feet with the project and where we want it to go, and that’s a really exciting feeling! We’re starting to get the feedback and the response that we’d hoped for, so we’re more energised than ever.”
Another extremely impressive release to add to their discography, Even In The Shade is the sound of a band who are destined for great things and deserve to be a big name in the UK music scene and beyond.
