Sometimes a rebrand is a good thing. I had times where I’d wear my fringe to the left rather than the right, and nowadays I can’t even grow a fringe. Big Romance is the new project from the members of Deep.sleep, who felt the time was right to venture into something new. ‘This Feeling’ is their debut single and it’s also going to be the song that plays when the mighty South Shields F.C. walk out on home games too. Up The Babes!
The decision to start anew came after a recording session produced a more guitar-driven sound. Moving away from Deep.sleep’s melodic style and into something upfront instead. ‘This Feeling’ brings that immediate sound in abundance. Thick walls of guitars are built with layers that fill the ears with noise. They’re coated in reverb and ring out of the airwaves, and are backed by thumping drums and all manner of melodies to create a huge sound.
‘This Feeling’ sounds massive and could easily be heard in a stadium. It has the anthemic sound that is perfect for the rush of emotions felt during a football match. With references to the club and the River Tyne, it comes alive with its connection to the club and area. Listening to it down the other end of the country makes me feel like an honorary fan.
Big Romance have delivered hugely on their restart. ‘This Feeling’ feels like a new chapter for the trio, and I’m excited to hear more from this new sound and where it takes them.
