Blusher – ‘Rave Angel’ / New Single

Hailing from a land down under and consisting of Lauren, Jade and Miranda, this Melbourne supergroup claims to be your ‘new favourite pop band’; and after listening to their latest release, I have found that statement to be true.

After gaining attention with their debut EP ‘Should We Go Dance?’ last year, the Aussie trio are now storming into 2024 with ‘Rave Angel’ – a powerful punch of pure pop joy incorporating the bands’ signature synths and heavy basslines, layered with dreamy vocals to create an impactful number that’s either gonna get you dancing the night away under the neon lights or speeding down the highway at 2am with the rooftop down; maybe both.

Opening with pounding, electronic beats and impactful drums, the intoxicating vocals appear to describe an underwhelming start to a night-out – ‘somebody hand me the aux cord, this DJ sucks I’m going home, no one’s on the dancefloor…’.  before the night is saved, eventually turning into one of those nights where you’re begging for ‘just one more dance before we go’, with the earworm of a line ‘can I redeem the night?’ eventually becoming ‘can I relive the night?’.

With its primary sound deeply rooted in 1980s electronica, the track also presents a fresh, modern sound that jumps between rolling, synth-fuelled verses and calmer sections layered with ethereal vocals. It’s clear that Blusher draws influences from the likes of Charli XCX in this release, creating a painfully catchy single that may have more links to Charli than first meets the ears…

Legend says that the birth of the term ‘Rave Angel’ was in a club in LA, when the trio stumbled upon a secret DJ set by no other than Charli XCX, the band then coining the phrase to describe how the pop Queen looked behind the decks as they ended up, unexpectantly, dancing the night away, much like the premise of this song!

Whether or not it was Blusher’s intention, the song really does make you think – life really is what you make of it if you choose to grab it by the horns and choose to smile, making ‘Rave Angel’ the perfect would-be soundtrack to that coming-of-age film where the main character finds their true self and stops giving a f*ck! This track is an instant mood booster being both sonically and lyrically infectious, spouting such a positive energy that envelops you and immediately make you wanna get up, love life, and PARTY!

If Blusher can create a rave track that encapsulates that positivity so beautifully (whilst being an absolute BANGER) I can’t wait to see what else 2024 has in store for my ‘new favourite pop band’!

With Blusher having recently announced they’ll be playing at Latitude Festival this July, make sure to give them a follow to keep up to date with their upcoming shows – who knows, maybe even a cheeky support slot for Charli XCX will be on the cards?
