Elanor Moss returns with new single ‘Sorry Song’. The Yorkshire songwriter has become one of our favourite debutants of 2022 after releasing Citrus. An EP that continues to be one of the best of the year, largely in part to having some of the most honest lyrics as well as a strong first impression. Its honest execution against immaculate instrumentation meant that we would forever look forward to what came next.
‘Sorry Song’ offers more introspective lyricism, reflecting on the aftermath of the events that inspired Citrus, but in a more outwardly way compared to its predecessor. “It marked a turning point for me in my songwriting; although it’s an introspective song, it’s directed outwards.” Elanor says. “I was in a place where I could examine through songwriting how I affect other people and not just how they affect me.”
Throughout the song, a long list of apologies unravelled within layers of dreamy acoustic sounds to create another astounding listen. With apologies ranging from being in one’s head too much to always getting takeaways (don’t see an issue with that), ‘Sorry Song’ showcases the vulnerability and grounded quality that makes it so easy to connect to Elanor’s music. It’s what made Citrus feel so accessible, and it’s nice to hear this trait remain.
The song welcomes contributions from drums and baritone guitars alongside the familiar woodwind and acoustic instruments. Creating another lush sound that could float by if not weighed down by its lyrics. Fortunately, it’s these heavy topics that allow us to grab a hold and come along for the ride.
‘Sorry Song’ is a superb listen and an exciting start into what’s sure to be a great second offering from Elanor Moss. She can do no wrong in our eyes, and this is just further confirmation of that.
