Eliza May is back with new single ‘Edge of This’. The first release since The Fall EP way back in 2019, and also a taste of what to expect from her upcoming Candy Heart EP. With influences ranging from Hayley Williams to Fickle Friends, Eliza honours them with a seriously catchy return.
Bolstered with catchy melodies and hooks throughout, ‘Edge of This’ is a song I find myself returning to over and over. Its instrumental comes steeped in emotion through keys and guitars, but it also has a groove to it that cuts through the mix to bring a real zest to the track. The accessibility immediately brightens things and create a nice contrast against the lyrics, which seem to be engaged in a battle between head and heart, as they detail the highs and lows of love and relationships. When life brings you lemons, you could squeeze them into your eyes, but in other times, you could make lemonade. ‘Edge of This’ is the most refreshing glass of lemonade I’ve had this year.
I really like the way the song flows with the mood of the lyrics. Leaning into the guitars and keys to bring a louder, out-of-control set of chords as the heart falls for an ex before returning to the groovier side of things when sensibilities take over. It makes for great listening and doesn’t wear out on repeated listens too. It’s a great song, and one that makes me excited to hear more from Eliza May soon.
