Faerie is ‘the fluttering indie-pop’ project of New York based Christine Lam, with this latest release providing all the shimmery, synthy vibes you could possibly need.
Being no stranger to blending different genres and sounds, her latest release produced by L.A’s Matty Bedrosian, continues an appreciation for synths and groovy beats, whilst immediately sparking a comforting, nostalgic feeling through its indie, dream-pop vibes. Following an upbeat and playful guitar riff, dreamy vocals cut through with an effortless swagger, dripping with syrupy tones, as we are lead down the bright streets and ‘neon flashes’ of ‘k-town’, slowly slipping into Faerie’s weird and wonderful world of fantasy and escapism.
Laying upon the bed of atmospheric synths, we find the super catchy ‘no hard feelings, I can’t feel it’ build before bursting into a whimsical haze of sweet, airy vocals – it’s almost like smashing through the wall of reality and falling into dreamland, swept away into the clouds, and being quite literally away with (the) Faerie(s). It’s not long before the lo-fi, whacky synths do their thing, providing a quirky layer and confirming this track is just as danceable as it is soothing. The transition to ‘tell me what you are now, baby what you are’, brings a poppy quality which could almost make it a completely different song when compared to its intro – only until now you realise the musical ground this lil’ track has managed to cover, before closing with an outro that is hands-down a bop in its own right.
‘k-town’ feels like a surreal and wondrous journey that sonically captures the final sunshiny remnants as Summer fades into Autumn. Faerie has well and truly delivered the goods (and no doubt earnt herself some new fans), with this latest piece providing the cosy, comforting blanket of magic to soundtrack the rest of October, and beyond.
