Favourite EPs of 2022

It is list week! The most wonderful time of the year (that involves lists). 2022 has been a fantastic year for Music. Whether you’re a fan of the mainstream or a major hipster diving deep into the corners of the internet, there was definitely gems to be found. It’s been a pleasure recommending some of the best releases of the year, but as to be expected, we couldn’t cover them all. That’s why end of year lists exist!

Here’s a list of 25 of the best EPs of 2022. There have been at least fifty thousand versions of it, but I’m pretty happy with this. Please let me know if you agree with the listings, and if not then…sorry. Enjoy.

05. Elanor Moss – Citrus

Potentially seen as a biased decision based on its title, but the debut EP from Elanor Moss absolutely warrants its place in the top 5. Citrus blends emotive, honest lyricism with  sombre, delicate instrumentals to create one of the rawest listens of the year.

04. CIEL – Not In The Sun, Nor In The Dark

CIEL’s first effort is out go-to for when we want nothing but riffs in our face. Filled with dirty instrumentals throughout, Not In The Sun… is an enthralling listen that makes us feel cooler than we are.

03. Kyoto Kyoto – Mirror Flexing Jaw

Whether that’s delivering song topics unlike no other, or sounds that we’re still yet to comprehend, Kyoto Kyoto have emerged as one of the most original sounding acts in recent times. Mirror Flexing Jaw offers all of that in abundance, delivered throughout excellent songwriting and equally eye-opening performances.

02. Sunflower Thieves – Someone To Be There For

A real favourite of the blog, Sunflower Thieves finally released a substantial project after years of singles. Someone To Be There For is a wonderful collection of tracks that highlight the power and vulnerability of love, loss and friendship. From the warming melodies of ‘Sirens’ to the pure sounds of ‘I Don’t Know Why’,  Sunflower Thieves really brought the goods.

01. partygirl – partygirl

New York trio partygirl came from obscurity to deliver the most powerful record we’ve heard this year. With songs written from the experiences of sexual assault and trauma from Pagona Kytzidis, the EP is a deeply personal listen that continues to astound us. Alongside the personal accounts, it also focuses on moving forward, which is how the act came to be.

It really is an incredible EP and one that will stick with us over the years.
