Fig By Four – ‘Lifejackal’ / new single

‘Lifejackal’ is the new single from Sarah Statham’s Fig By Four. Having been a touring member for the likes of Living Body and Crake, Sarah is now looking to establish herself as a solo enthusiast. With debut album Capture Reveal set to release in October, this new single is an introduction into her sound, and what a lovely introduction it is.

Drenched in reverberated guitars and wandering melodies, ‘Lifejackal’ welcomes us to its world with a warm embrace. It feels so easy to fall inside its many layers. Sarah’s vocals float on top of said layers to lead us to wards its chorus, which eases into the mind and refuses to leave. The hints of synth adds a touch of fuzz to the mix, while the drums help add texture and grit to the instrumental. That snappy rhythm really could last forever and I’d be okay with it.

Written about the power of truly letting go of something, the song does a wonderful job of illustrating that feeling of relief, and the growth that comes too. Subtle additions of synth, horns and bass are gradually added to the mix, culminating in a full band sound that really feels like a force of nature. ‘Lifejackal’ is a standout song and one that I’ll return to, especially as we head towards the colder, autumnal part of the year. Sarah has got us hooked and excited to hear more from Fig By Four.
