Fräulein – ‘Pet’ / New Single

Following on from last year’s A Small Taste comes ‘Pet’, the newest single from Punk duo Fräulein. Known for having a throwback sound, their latest tune embraces the highs of the 90s but also keeps their feet moving forward too. It also sounds like the ideal theme tune for my Dog, Leo, as he is a menace.

While the duo knows how to make a lot of noise, ‘Pet’ opts for a subtle approach. Its intro sinks into a sleek melodic section that allows the drums to showcase some flair as the guitars noodles its way into the ears. As it draws you into listening closer, the chorus erupts with huge riffs that flood the airwaves with a Nirvana-esque wall of noise that feels really crunchy and satisfying. The harmonies that cry out from within the layers makes it even better.

Hopefully this begins a new project from Fräulein. ‘Pet’ is a great song that has a great mix of urgency and composure that makes me return to it over and over. It wears its influences proudly but firmly stands out as its own thing. Good stuff.
