neverlove. – ‘motionless’ / New Single

‘motionless’ is the debut single from neverlove. A five-piece band from Bath/Bristol who dabble in a bit of Emo and Indie, with tiny hints of Math Rock and Country thrown in too. Honestly, that sounds mental and almost like there might be too many ingredients, but – just like Ben & Jerry’s collaboration with Tony Chocolonely – it is absolutely what I need right now.

Sounding like a beautiful collision, ‘motionless’ is a wonderfully layered tune that takes all of these influences and creates a sound that’s steeped in emotion and easy to digest. Maddy Christy’s vocals tiptoe delicately through the music, which steadily builds with intricate melodies that lean towards an anthemic close. One that rocks the room with massive guitar riffs and drums, sounding so unlike it’s more subtle, melodic intro. But even at its loudest, the song is still layered with screaming vocals and beats that add further texture and urgency to the mix.

This was a real surprise of a listen, and one hell of a way to introduce yourself. neverlove. have burst onto the scene with a song that reveals all of their influences, and the way they manage to shape them into their sound. ‘motionless’ is hard hitting, vulnerable, loud, quiet – it’s everything, and somehow not overcomplicated. It’s great, and I can’t wait to hear what’s next from this promising band.
