Orbit Street – “Where She Goes/Kind” / new single

The greatest thing about music is that there’s always something new around the corner, and Orbit Street is another new band to take note of. They have released their debut double A-sided single, containing the songs ‘Where She goes’ and Kind’.

First, I tucked into ‘Where she goes’, and had no idea what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised, as it was something completely different to anything I had heard before. The track is mixed with these calm elements of jazz, synth and acoustic – it’s very different and brave. When you first stick the track on you think you’re on for this very straightforward track with some subtle instrumentals and vocals, but as the track goes on it grows and everything comes together. To the point where it’s less about the vocal performance and lyrics, but just the music, I had to hit play again.

The second track ‘Kind’ is a long one, which comes in over 9 minutes. Starting out with these distant, hesitant drums, Orbit Street makes you wait for the song to go into full flow, but it’s a joy when it does. It almost sounds like it was done, while they were waiting around to record something else and someone had left a microphone on. Their performances on the track are done extremely well, everything from the melodic saxophone to the textured drums in the background. This is something to drop on when you’re having a slow morning and you need something to have a little jam to. A great debut from an interesting band, looking forward to whatever comes next, one thing for sure is that it won’t be boring!
