‘Simple Things’ is the new single from Petite Noir. Having only released one other single this year, the project of Yannick Ilunga is definitely one that prioritises quality over quantity. (Not like this blog with over 500 posts published.) With Theo Coker involved too, this tune is one that has been stuck in our ears for ages now.
Right from the gates, ‘Simple Things’ gets us moving as its instrumental hits the hips. Its atmospheric sound is bolstered by muted bass notes and percussion, bringing a rhythm that envelops the ears in groove. Yannick’s soft falsetto oozes out of the mix and collides into a booming chorus made up of Theo Coker’s trumpets, providing this joyous moment that really makes it stand out from a lot of music heard this year.
It doesn’t give a lot away by that mysteriousness only makes it more intriguing. Petite Noir has capped off what has a modest year with a single that is sure to last on a lot of playlists. Hopefully next year offers more good vibes for us to enjoy.
