Sis – Gnani / EP Review

Californian singer and multi-instrumentalist Sis shares her stunning new EP Gnani. The six-track offering see’s Sis once again mix electronic experimentation with electronic-pop to great effect.

Building a warming, haunting atmosphere across the EP, Sis blends airy analogue synths, vintage keyboards, rolling beats and her delicate breathy vocals to create a dreamy, melancholic haze. Using vintage keyboards such as clavinet, Phillicordia, Rhodes, B3 Hammond organ, Farfisa, and ARP Odyssey, Sis weaves an intimate yet vibrant sound that fuses psychedelic electronica with electronic pop to great effect.

Delicate and airy vocals compliment foreboding synths on opening track ‘Double Rapture’. The recently released a single gives us a taste of the entrancing soundscapes that lie ahead. Stand-out tracks across the EP include ‘Wooie’, a song with a nostalgic vibe which features a punchy rhythm and an attitude-filled vocal line. With hushed vocals and tantalising synths, fourth track ‘Light is There’ has an otherworldly feel to it. Gnani closes with ‘Gazelle Rites’ an instrumental offering that shows off an innovative sonic expression.

Gnani is a heavenly EP, with transportive powers that are completely unique to Sis.
