It’s been over a year since Snowy Band released new music, after their debut album Audio Commentary back in March 2020. However, they’re back with some new material, along with the announcement of their second album Alternate Endings, which is set for release in August 2021.
‘Living with Myself’ is the first track to be released ahead of the album, which is a beautiful muted pop song that is so well put together. From the soft introduction of the lightly strummed guitar, and pronounced bass it produces this calming effect which lasts throughout the track. The vocals from Halliwell are delciately delivered, as if they didn’t want to wake the neighbour, as they entice you to the track even more.
As it breaks into the chorus, the volumes level rises, but not to the point where it blow you away and takes you out the song. The chorus is something I can get behind; “I’m living with myself today / not giving anything away / I’m living with myself today / because we’re one and the same”. It gives off the feeling that it’s okay to spend some time alone, which I think some people need to hear.
As the song goes on it feels like it slightly builds up, which is a nice wrinkle in the production. The ending is sharp and abrupt, which for me just made me want to hit play again as I needed to hear the chorus a couple more times.
Must admit, prior to this track I hadn’t heard to much of Snowy Band but, after ‘Living with Myself’ I think I’ take a deep dive into their debut album and fall in love some more.
