Strange Tides – ‘Black Skies’ / New Single

Strange Tides are an indie-folk duo from, a place I’d much like to visit one day, Vancouver Canada. After releasing their debut track back in 2020 entitled ‘Criminal’, the duo are back with their latest instalment ‘Black Skies’.

The song certainly toes the line between folk and pop, because even though there’s influences of John Mayer and Jenn Grant, you can definitely hear parts of Taylor Swift. It’s done so well as Strange Tides don’t hide away from this, as they clearly lean into it and embrace.

The pair see the song split into two parts, which is very clear when listening. The start of the track and the first part representing the start of summer and you’re at the start of relationship you’re not sure will work out. Then the second part represents the end of summer, and is the partners response to end of said relationship. I enjoy that the duo had this idea for the song, and they managed to pull it off in the song.

Strange Tides have a clear musical identity after only two tracks and are clearly very talented. Their vocals also compliment one another so well, so I’m looking forward to see what the duo can cook up for their next release!
