swim school – ‘Delirious’ / New Single

After releasing their second EP last year entitled Making Sense of it All, swim school seem to have been capitalizing on the momentum that release had, with them following it up with Kill You. A lot can happen during a course of a year and it did for swim school in 2022 with the Scottish band now becoming a three piece and looking to perhaps change direction somewhat.

Fast forward a month into 2023, they are here with a brand new track, ‘Delirious’, and what a song to start the year off with. Coming in under just three minutes, the whole thing is a complete whirlwind. The intro just has the heavily reverbed guitar which gives off this stalking feeling. As the song bursts into life, you’re thrown into a mosh pit made of audio, it’s manic. You’ve lost your friends, dropped your pint and somehow you’re at the center of it all.

The fast paced dreary slum guitars are a nice contrast to the slow, intense and personal vocals. Alice Johnson does a fantastic job of building the chorus, where the songs slips further into beautiful disparity. It really is a stellar performance from all aspects, with the drums and guitars delivering on their fronts, really driving the song, creating an urgency which would work well as an opener. Just as you feel you’re ready for another chorus the song just cuts off and it’s wonderful, leaving a taste in you’re mouth that leaves you wanting more.

Honestly, this could be a very special year for swim school, having already being recognised by dork, NME and Clash it seems like they have the world at their feet. Well they also have our nod of recommendation, let’s hope it’s a massive year for the Scottish trio!
