Newcastle’s Ten Eighty Trees are back with their first single of the year, “Distractics”. Written about the portmanteau of distraction and tactics, this new tune has all the tools to make you forget about all of the…everything that’s happening right now and ensure that, even for a few minutes, you have nothing but a good time.
As to be expected, there are riffs aplenty. There’s little time wasted in the song flooding the ears with more of those distorted guitars that’ve become a staple in the trio’s sound. But as blistering as they are in parts, there’s also some melody thrown into the mix that makes things flow nicely. The quiet/loud dynamic really works here, as it builds tension towards the chorus, which erupts with sheer volume. So loud that it will throw any other thoughts right out of your head.
“Distractics” is a superb song and a welcome return for Ten Eighty Trees. If this is the start of something substantial from the trio, then I welcome that prospect with very open arms. So open, you could see it from space. Or something.
