Vacant Weekend – ‘Manchester’ / New Single

A lot has changed since Vacant Weekend burst onto the scene with their infectious debut ‘All Over’. A string of releases culminated in their debut EP Marlboro Reds and a series of festival appearances, providing numerous examples as to why the trio should be on your radar. If all that wasn’t enough, they have marked this new chapter with a new single – ‘Manchester’.

Written as the band were coming to the end of their adolescence years, ‘Manchester’ couldn’t have come at a better time. Now that the first single and first EP have been released, it makes sense that their newest tune details the fear and confusion that comes with heading into the unknown.

While the rich tapestry and subtle Funk grooves and catchy Indie guitars continue to lead the way, there’s an air of caution to the song. As if illustrating the sense of unknowing of what comes next, the instrumentation reveals emotive melodies within its layers which works well against the brashy riffs. The vocals are a little softer, purposefully sinking into the music so as not to reveal itself too much. It makes for great listening.

‘Manchester’ is a superb song that highlights everything we’ve come to expect from Vacant Weekend, but with slight additions that allow us to dip our toes in this water of new sound ever so slightly. I’m quite excited to see where the trio go from here and hope that the confidence heard up to Marlboro Reds makes a big return.
