Scottish newcomers YABBA have launched their debut single. Released on Nice Swan Records, ‘Get By’ is a frenetic introduction that hides little hints of disco inside a thick sludge of distortion to leave us excited and a little bit perplexed.
The single kicks into gear immediately, with the help of wailing sirens setting the tone. This unnerving intro is met with a merciless set of drums that sends the energy levels soaring, leaving little room to prepare for what’s to come. An onslaught of guitars and synths arrive to deliver an instrumental that contends with itself, warping and colliding with the vocals, that are so buried you have no choice but to lean in closer. But as hard hitting as it sounds, there is an element of groove to it that makes it hard to resist.
With the band likening the song to being Stone Cold Steve Austin’s true theme song, ‘Get By’ is a song that entices the listener into letting loose and dabbling into doing a bit of bad. Whether that’s robbing a bank or delivering a Stone Cold Stunner to an unsuspecting neighbour, Yabba’s first offering is one that’s sure to be supporting you along the way. It doesn’t fall into the bad crowd, it makes its own.
