Low Girl have launched new single ‘Pockets’. Having graced us with the Uh-Oh EP back in January, the quartet are truly spoiling us with new music and a headline tour to make keep the eardrums happy for the rest of the year.
Much like the sound heard on Uh-Oh, the new single takes time to ease itself into frame. Its electronic vibe softly colours in the atmosphere while blissful melodies and deep basslines lead the way. Sarah Cosgrove’s vocals coolly interject themselves into the mix, adding hooks and rhythm into this floaty yet rigid setup.
Lyrically, the song tackles repeated attempts to repress something that’s always on the surface. It does a good job of illustrating how one can feel isolated engaging in this solo war. They do their best to keep up with the flitting, almost jovial tone of the instrumental, but you can feel the tension within the words.
‘Pockets’ is an understated jam that excels within its subtlety. It has all the tools to be an immediate earworm but performs in a more withheld stance that only draws you closer. Low Girl continue to bring their blend of quirky indie Pop to the ears, and here’s hoping it leads to more substantial output in the new year.
